Today we have been editing our final production and inserting what we hope will be the final shots.
We have used variations of shots, such as close ups to full lengths, ones displaying lots of movement and ones where she is simply lying on the floor. We have discussed this and decided that as the song builds up as should the editing pace. This is what we did today.

We realise that the editing on the first chorus is going to need to be sharper and more choppy. We will take this into account when we next edit on Monday.

Today We Went Filming

To try and get the sunrise shot we wanted we all woke up at 4:30 am this morning to drive to Hampsted Heath and find a good shot on a hill of the whole of London with the Sun rising over it.
It did not go as planned as it was a cloudy day yet again, so we will need to go out and re-film.

Improvements To Be Made

After watching and spending time editing our footage I feel we still need to film a couple more things;
- Our Studio Footage
- More coupley times with George and Eleanor rather than just fighting

I think these would add more elements to the video, making it less superficial and would be easier for the audience to watch seeing as the story would make a lot more sense.

Studio Idea

We have decided to go with the Studio idea. However, we do not want to do the more obvious studio shots where she is simply singing into a microphone, we want to experiment. The genre we have chosen is Experiemental Pop/Rock, and therefore i feel like this should be shown in our final product.
We are going to use a variation of lights and a big room to film this is, this is where all our lip synching will take place.
When we get there we are going to experiement. Were planning to film on Wednesday 9th Feb

Today we tried filming some more singing shots. We took inspiration from this photo.

We tried to do recreate this by using the schools projector system bouncing of a whiteboard and hoping the light would bounce in the right direction, with the right amount of light which it did not. After playing with various ways to do this we found that it is not a good way to get this effect.
We have now found a few adjustable lights which we are going to aim on eleanor to try and get the effect. However we are yet to do so.

Studio Scene/Shots?

After a group discussion today of where to go next we have concluded that we are going to add in a new location. This is because our music video is not really making much sense at the moment. Our ideas of new locations are;

- A Bedroom - This is to show a woman alone in a safe place where she is singing and this would be the main lip synching place. The Bedroom would be very minimilistic and lonely.

- A Studio - This is to add a more obvious place, fitting with the conventions of a music video. Here we would experiment a lot with lighting, framing and composition and objects to try and get the most interesting shots possible

- A Road - Here she would be walking down the street, this would be the linking of the sadder times on the rooftop to the happier and free times in the forest. This would be good to have because it would show a clear link in the story as well as having all lip synchin there to add to the music video feel.

Today we had a group discussion on where to go from where we are, we decided that the next stage would be to go early to the field in Cuffely and film a sunrise.
We will also film Eleanor in the dress Rachel has made, and a lot of lipsynching.

'Honey and the Anarchists'

Today we thought it might be a nice idea to have the word and idea of 'Honey' in our title. We wanted to contradict the idea of Honey with sweet and quite cute connotations to a harder word, possibly portraying the stronger side of our protagonist. We looked in an online encyclopedia and found the word;

'Anarchism' - Anarchists seek to diminish or even abolish authority in the conduct of human relations.

I like this as it will portray our characters vulnerable and weak side, but also her ambition to be strong and free which i believe the song is about.

Making our Treatment

This is us writing our PowerPoint to present our ideas for our Paloma Faith music video.
In this we will include;
• Background on song
• What is the basic narrative or concept of your video? Are you creating a performance, narrative or concept and why? Link this to your lyrics
• What ‘feel’ do you want to provide for your audience?
• How will you achieve this?
• What are the codes and conventions of your genre?
• In what ways are you conforming to or subverting them?
• What themes do you have running through your video?
• How will you use costume and make up to convey your messages?
• Where is your location and why?
• Have you obtained the band’s permission?

We have decided that we will have to simplify our ideas as some are unachievable with the resources we have. However we are still keen to pursue our imagination vs reality concept and are looking at ways of simplifying this. A possible idea was not so much imagination more twisted reality however this would not contrast as well as imagination and with the obvious contrast in the song we do want to reflect this in our video.

29.09.2010

Today we had anotrher group discussion about how to further our ideas. We concluded that Stone Cold Sober, is a very hard song to maike a video for.
We did some research into tghe meaning of the song and found that the message behind the lyrics are 'trying to be something you're not' so we came up with a concept of 'Imagination vs Reality' from this we came up with a few ideas;
- Alice in Wonderland theme, like gwen stefani in the video to her song, What You Waiting For?
- Having dull colours to reflect her real life and bright to reflact her imaginary life.
- starting with a depressing scene for the eye with hardly any colour and people lying around.. not sober.
- Her falling into an imaginary place.
We also thought these ideas would be good to use in our cd case and promotional advert. The Alice in Wonderland theme could possibly run through the who advertising pack.

Idea.2 - Paloma Faith

Paloma Faith has some amazing songs, which could be a bit easier to make a song to. As the narrative is often very strong. This could allow us as a group to be a bit more creative with what we want to do. The song we would choose to possibly do is 'Stone Cold Sober' (below)

This would be an interesting song to do, althought it is not in the rock genre, it is very dramatic and could cuse for some good lighting, perhaps strobe lighting, and low key lighting.

Another song I thought we ould do from Paloma Faith is 'New York';
But my group did not like this choice because they thought it would cause for very good lip syncing and acting, which could be a factor, that if goes wrong could effect the overall Music Video.

Meeting in Starbucks

Today we had a small meeeting to discuss what we're going to do about our music video, and how we will set about to create what we want. to do this we have come up with a few things we need to do to make sure that we can get the best from what we want;

1) We will need a committed 'band' who will come and film when we need them to.

2) We need to check out the music studio in our school to see if we would be able to make a successful 'set' that would be good for the auditions and the performance.

3) We need to see if enough people would want to be in the music video to get the effect we need.

Once we have looked at doing these things we will them make a decision to what we want to do, go along with this idea or think about another one.

Imogen Heap.1

Having decided we might like to do a video from the artist Imogen Heap we wanted to find other A2 Students who have also done it, this is one video we found.

We as a group have fallen in love with this video. The collection of interesting shots all merge together to make something more than just a video of random shots. A montage. However, the continuity of the low key lighting brings the whole video into one, so that it makes sense and is therefore seen more as a planned music video.
If we were to do a video of Imogen Heap we would want to make more of a story, so that it could get through and possibly impact on the audience more.
